The action-packed game Cosmic Invasion will be available on December 1st for PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Publisher Dotemu has announced that Iron Man and Phoenix will join the playable lineup, bringing the total number of characters at launch to 15. With developer Tribute Games’ history of successful games, Cosmic Invasion is expected to be a major hit this holiday season.
We’ve seen a few classic side-scrolling beat ’em up games based on Marvel characters, like the X-Men Arcade Game and Captain America and the Avengers, but it’s been a while since a new one appeared. The game currently features 15 playable characters, which is a good start, and leaves plenty of room for additional characters to be added as downloadable content in the future.
Blade Would Deliver a Supernatural Edge with a Diverse Moveset
Blade would be a fantastic fit for a beat ’em up game. His fighting style, combining sword skills, kicks, and gunplay, would allow for fast-paced and satisfying combos. As a vampire, he could also briefly regain health during tough battles or while teaming up with another player. He’s ideal for gamers who enjoy fast, intense, and up-close combat.
This character would stand out dramatically against the game’s space setting. His design – glowing eyes, a leather coat, and powerful attacks – would look fantastic as pixel art, making him a visually striking character. A fighting style focused on accurate and forceful moves could quickly make him a popular antihero with players.
Cyclops Offers Disciplined Precision and Leadership Qualities
Cyclops would be a character focused on strategic positioning and accurate attacks. His energy blasts could control areas of the battlefield, allowing players to break through enemy defenses or keep opponents at a distance. He’d be a well-rounded, tactical choice for players who prefer a controlled, thoughtful approach to gameplay.
Cyclops would be a strong leader for a team of cosmic heroes. This leadership could translate into the game itself, perhaps through abilities that strengthen allies or coordinate attacks. He’s a natural field commander, offering a sense of order that would balance out more impulsive characters like Rocket and Venom. Plus, his design would look fantastic in a retro, pixelated art style – just like the original X-Men game on Sega Genesis.
Daredevil Would Bring Street-Level Grit to the Cosmic Chaos
Honestly, Marvel needs a street-level fighter in the cosmic mix, and I think Daredevil would be perfect. His fighting style is all about being quick, dodging attacks, and reacting fast – it would translate so well into a beat ’em up. Think a lot of dodging, countering, and needing perfect timing. We’ve got Spider-Man and Wolverine doing crazy combos, but Daredevil could be different. His gameplay would focus on defense and really powerful finishing moves, making every punch mean something.
Daredevil would be a refreshing change of pace from the typical space-faring heroes we see. Imagining him fighting on alien worlds, using his clubs and agility amidst lasers and explosions, is a fun contrast. His ability to sense his surroundings could be a unique game mechanic, letting him find hidden objects or dodge attacks with skill, making him a stylish and different fighter.
Gambit’s Kinetic Flair is Made for Pixel Art Explosions
Gambit is a perfect fit for a vibrant, pixel art fighting game, especially given his powers. He can control crowds with long-range attacks and use his staff for wide-sweeping combos that launch enemies into the air. Every blast of his bright magenta energy would create exciting, colorful explosions during battles.
While most of the characters in Marvel Cosmic Invasion use powers based on space or the elements, Gambit would offer a different style with his charisma and unpredictable moves. His visually impressive animations and powerful attacks could be used in a scoring system that rewards players for quickly linking attacks together and keeping up the pace. He’s energetic, quick, and adds a lot of personality, providing a nice contrast to the more powerful, cosmic characters.
Human Torch Could Ignite Fast-Paced, High-Risk Combat
Johnny Storm’s unpredictable powers would be great for a risky but rewarding gameplay style. A unique ability where powerful attacks also cost him health could set him apart. Visually, his fiery nature would fit perfectly with the game’s energetic pixel art style.
The Human Torch would be a fun and lively addition to the game’s lineup of characters. His ability to fly and create fiery attacks could add a new dimension to battles, letting players attack enemies from above and across a wider area. He’s all about creating an impressive show, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a game that really benefits from those kinds of exciting moments.
Invisible Woman Would Introduce Creative Defense and Crowd Control
Sue Storm, with her mastery of force fields, has the potential to revolutionize defense and support strategies in the game. She can create barriers, throw objects with her mind, and even briefly turn herself or others invisible, providing a unique blend of protection and powerful attacks. She could also protect teammates or trap opponents in force fields, setting them up for devastating combos.
Not only is she a valuable asset, but her dynamic personality would complement the existing team well. Her powers would also look incredible in the game’s cosmic settings, creating beautiful visual effects. She’s an ideal character for players who enjoy strategic teamwork rather than just focusing on attack power.
Luna Snow Blends Glamour with Elemental Strategy
Luna Snow would add a unique cultural element to the game, along with powerful ice-based attacks. Her abilities, which include creating ice structures, sliding, and performing attacks in rhythm, would allow for a fluid, combo-focused fighting style that emphasizes precise timing and skillful play.
Luna Snow’s life as both a pop star and a superhero creates exciting possibilities for how she’s presented. Imagine special musical sounds accompanying her powers and attacks! In Marvel Cosmic Invasion, she’d be unique not just because of her ice-based abilities, but also because she represents Marvel’s commitment to featuring heroes from around the world.
Nightcrawler’s Teleportation Could Redefine Traversal and Combo Flow
This character would be a standout in any side-scrolling fighting game. His ability to teleport isn’t just for dodging attacks—it also lets him quickly move around enemies to strike or safely navigate dangerous levels. A master player could make him incredibly fast and difficult to follow, appearing as a streak of motion.
Nightcrawler’s signature smoke effects and fluid movements would look fantastic as a pixel-art character. Beyond visuals, his strong sense of purpose and acrobatic fighting style would bring a lot of personality to the game’s lineup. He’d also add a new level of strategy, making him one of the quickest and most nimble fighters available.
The Punisher Would Bring Firepower and Grit to the Cosmic Stage
This character would be a powerful addition to the game, bringing ranged combat to a lineup focused on close-quarters fighting. Players could switch between hand-to-hand battles and devastating shotgun attacks, creating a dynamic and exciting combat style. Plus, because he already stars in his own fighting game, there’s a wealth of existing moves and animations that could be used.
As a playable character, Frank Castle—the Punisher—would bring a classic, action-packed feel to Marvel Cosmic Invasion. He’d stand out as a uniquely human force, battling gods, aliens, and monsters using only his courage, training, and determination—a stark contrast to the more fantastical elements of the Marvel Universe.
Quicksilver Could Redefine Speed and Combo Chaining
Quicksilver has the potential to make the game’s combat incredibly smooth and dynamic. He could achieve this with quick dashes that flow directly into attacks, letting players create long, unbroken combos and move around the battlefield with amazing speed. If done right, playing as Quicksilver would feel like a fast-paced, exhilarating experience.
Visually, Quicksilver’s speed effects would translate beautifully into pixel art. Adding him to the game would also create a more diverse character lineup, offering a fast-paced, energetic playstyle that’s a great contrast to powerful, slower characters like She-Hulk and Beta Ray Bill. He’d make the game incredibly dynamic, demanding quick reactions and precise timing from players.
