10 Dragon Ball Super Manga Mistakes The Anime Can Fix

Even after the Dragon Ball Super anime ended, fans could continue following Goku and Vegeta’s story in the Dragon Ball Super manga. Out of the manga’s four story arcs following the Tournament of Power, two were based on the movies, and the other two were entirely new. While fans enjoy both the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga and the Granolah the Survivor Saga, a second season of the Dragon Ball Super anime could greatly improve them – as long as some adjustments were made during the adaptation process.

Many fans are eager for a Season 2 of Dragon Ball Super, but if it does happen, it really needs to address some problems with the manga. While some people are hoping for a faithful retelling of the Moro and Granolah arcs, the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga have always differed quite a bit. The original Dragon Ball anime and Dragon Ball Z were so great because they built upon Akira Toriyama’s manga, making improvements along the way. Even when it was at its peak, the manga had its weaknesses, and if the Dragon Ball Super anime were to come back, it would need to be ready to enhance the story in several areas.

The Dragon Ball Super Anime Can Give Moro More of a Personality

In many respects, Moro is the strongest original villain added to Dragon Ball Super. He’s truly frightening and powerful, his visual design is excellent, and his magical abilities create a fresh challenge for Goku and the Z-Fighters, showcased through a range of inventive methods. However, Moro is also the main Dragon Ball Super villain with the least developed personality.

Moro doesn’t stand out from other typically bad Dragon Ball villains, much like Perfect Cell, and his reasons for acting the way he does are never fully explained. To really make Moro a great villain, the Dragon Ball Super anime simply needs to show what makes him different from those who came before, and clearly explain his goals. If the series can do that, Moro could easily become the best villain in the DB anime since Goku Black and Zamasu.

Broly Shouldn’t Have Been Excluded From the Fights Against Moro and Granolah

I’ve been really impressed with Broly since he was reintroduced in his own movie, Dragon Ball Super: Broly. He’s quickly become one of the best characters added to Dragon Ball Super. I find his personality really enjoyable, he’s incredibly fun to watch fight, and I especially love the friendships he’s formed with Goku, Vegeta, Cheelai, and Lemo – they’re genuinely heartwarming. That’s why it’s so strange to me that the manga seemed to ignore him for years after such a fantastic debut in theaters.

In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Broly isn’t involved in the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga or the Granolah the Survivor Saga. The manga could have easily included him with the other characters, started developing his story, given him more battles, and introduced him to the Z-Fighters who aren’t Saiyans, but the creators chose not to. It’s hoped that the Dragon Ball Super anime will recognize this oversight and feature him-along with Cheelai and Lemo-when it adapts these two story arcs that were originally only in the manga.

The Z-Fighters Should Contribute More to the Battle Against the Moro Corps

Manga fans were excited to learn that almost all of the Z-Fighters would be joining the Galactic Patrol to battle Moro. The fight included the characters everyone anticipated, but also brought back Android 17 after his victory in the Tournament of Power, and even gave Yamcha and Chiaotzu a chance to participate again. Sadly, the way these well-loved characters were used didn’t live up to what fans had hoped for. It was a bit of a letdown.

The idea of Gohan, Piccolo, and the other supporting characters battling Moro’s magically enhanced army seems great on paper. However, the execution falls short because these fights are barely shown, the opponents they face aren’t important to the overall story, and their efforts ultimately don’t have any real impact. This is due to a lack of personal connection to the battles and the fact that even Moro’s strongest soldiers are easily defeated by Goku and Vegeta. While the power imbalance is understandable, Dragon Ball Super Season 2 could have included some filler episodes to give each of the Z-Fighters a chance to stand out and develop their own individual storylines.

Uub Needs More Attention During the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga

Throughout the Dragon Ball Super anime series, Uub is talked about, but he never actually makes an appearance. Considering his significant role in both the end of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT, many viewers found this disappointing, feeling like the show was intentionally delaying his introduction. While it was good to finally see Uub during the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, it ultimately felt insufficient.

It’s good that Uub appears in the Dragon Ball Super manga alongside the Grand Supreme Kai, but it’s not enough screen time. The anime series should do more than just build on his short appearance in that storyline; it should really introduce him to viewers who may not be familiar with his character. Dedicating a single, complete episode to Uub could make a big difference.

The Pacing of the Granolah the Survivor Saga Needs to Be Changed Completely

If you exclude the episodes that just summarized previous events – which aren’t really the saga’s fault – the Granolah the Survivor Saga is easily the most poorly paced story arc in all of Dragon Ball. The entire plot happens very early on, and then the rest is just fighting. This means the battles between Goku, Vegeta, Granolah, and Gas lack tension and excitement, making the whole thing feel incredibly slow and dull.

As a huge fan, I really think the Dragon Ball Super arc with Granolah the Survivor needs a bit of a rework. Honestly, I think moving some of the story’s key moments and character struggles from the beginning to later on would make a *huge* difference. Look, we all love the action – Dragon Ball is famous for its fights! – but without a strong story connecting everything, it starts to feel pointless. It can end up feeling like you’re just watching Super Dragon Ball Heroes, and that’s not what we want from a major arc!

Ultra Ego Needs to Be Foreshadowed Before the Granolah the Survivor Saga

A major development in the latest chapters of the Dragon Ball Super manga is Ultra Ego Vegeta. With his unique look, focus on destructive power, and a strength level comparable to Ultra Instinct Goku, fans were eager to see him battle Granolah. Unfortunately, the manga didn’t quite live up to the initial promise of Ultra Ego.

Before the Granolah the Survivor Saga, there was absolutely no indication that Ultra Ego-or anything similar-would appear, which makes it seem like a convenient way to give Vegeta a power boost comparable to Goku’s. Furthermore, Ultra Ego doesn’t achieve anything significant in its first fight; Vegeta is consistently weaker than all the other combatants. While the story can’t avoid this outcome without major changes, the Dragon Ball Super anime could have easily added hints about Ultra Ego during the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga.

Granolah and the Heeter Family Are in Need of More Character Development

The Granolah the Survivor Saga feels incomplete in several areas, and its weak villains are a major reason why. Granolah’s story feels like a less compelling take on Baby’s from Dragon Ball GT, and the Heeter Family as a whole seem flat and underdeveloped. While simple villains are common in Dragon Ball, they usually don’t ruin an entire story arc. However, this saga is different because it relies on its villains to push the plot forward, rather than focusing on the heroes.

Granolah’s main weakness is that he feels unremarkable and uninteresting, which makes it hard to really care about him as the story’s main character. Characters like Elec, Oil, and Maki Heeter seem more promising, but their potential isn’t fully used, and Gas is set up to be a deeply sad villain, but the manga doesn’t develop that side of him enough. The Dragon Ball Super anime should give Granolah a makeover, creating a more captivating character with a completely new personality, show us more of the Heeters and how they interact, and let Gas become the impressive villain he could be.

Bardock Should Be Cut From the Granolah the Survivor Saga Entirely

One of the most significant flaws in the Dragon Ball Super manga is bringing Bardock into the Granolah the Survivor Saga. Although some fans liked his appearance in Gas’s backstory, it doesn’t fit well when considering the story as a whole. Dragon Ball Super’s Bardock isn’t a compelling character, and giving him so much unnecessary focus weakens Goku’s story. Furthermore, Bardock’s wish on the Dragon Balls is arguably one of the worst-written moments in the entire Dragon Ball franchise.

Removing Bardock and Gas’s flashback entirely wouldn’t harm the story at all. Instead, the anime could focus more on Gas in the present, both leading up to and during his battle with Goku. By cutting out that portion of the story, Dragon Ball Super Season 2 would also have more flexibility to adjust the plot and improve the pacing.

The Fight Between Goku, Vegeta, Granolah, and Gas Has to Be Less Boring

The fight between Goku, Vegeta, Granolah, and Gas takes up a large part of the Granolah the Survivor Saga, which is a significant issue because the fight itself isn’t very compelling. A lot of the problems stem from the fighters not seeming particularly invested, and the story lacking a clear direction. Even putting that aside, the fight choreography isn’t as strong as we’ve come to expect from Toyotarou, and certainly not on par with Toriyama’s work. While there are a few exciting moments, the overall action falls short of expectations.

As a huge fan, I honestly think fixing the fight scenes in Dragon Ball Super Season 2 should be a breeze! We’ve seen with the incredible battles in the Tournament of Power, and a lot of Dragon Ball DAIMA, just how much pull Dragon Ball still has. It consistently attracts some of the very best animators and directors in the anime world. So, at the very least, Dragon Ball Super should be able to deliver a truly spectacular visual experience with the Goku and Vegeta vs Granolah vs Gas fight – it has the potential to be an absolute feast for the eyes!

The Dragon Ball Super Anime Can’t Keep Fans Waiting For the Black Frieza Saga

For over three years, Black Frieza has been a popular topic among Dragon Ball fans, but many are still waiting to see what role he’ll play in the story after his first appearance. This isn’t due to any issues with the manga itself; the current break is understandably due to the unexpected passing of Akira Toriyama. Nevertheless, the long wait has frustrated some fans, and it might be causing them to expect too much from this upcoming arc.

To put it plainly, a second season of Dragon Ball Super shouldn’t happen until the Black Frieza Saga starts appearing in the manga. It would be difficult for the anime to create adaptations of the Broly and Super Hero movies, and then animate the Moro and Granolah arcs, only to have to pause production because the Black Frieza Saga isn’t finished. The Black Frieza Saga needs to begin immediately after the Super Hero Saga concludes.
