For over forty years, Dragon Ball has remained a hugely popular anime series, and it shows no signs of stopping. The series is filled with memorable battles, and many of the most iconic fights happened during the original Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z eras.
Looking at the last ten years of Dragon Ball, from the beginning of Dragon Ball Super to the current run of Dragon Ball DAIMA, is also really fascinating. Dragon Ball Super features over-the-top battles with powerful gods and divine energy. Certain fights stand out as particularly memorable and are worth a closer look for fans.
Goku Shakes Up Dragon Ball Super’s Tournament of Destroyers
The Tournament of Destroyers in Dragon Ball Super cleverly introduces the concept of battles between universes. While fighters from Universe 6 – like Botamo, Frost, and Cabba – are defeated relatively quickly, it’s Hit, a famous assassin, who truly challenges both Vegeta and Goku. Hit’s special ability, the Time-Skip, briefly jumps him forward in time, confusing and disorienting his opponents.
Goku has a hard time figuring out how to fight Hit, until he combines his signature techniques. Using the Blue Kaio-Ken x10 allows Goku to match Hit’s speed, but it pushes his body to its absolute limit, leaving him weakened. While their fight before the Tournament of Power shows how much Hit has improved, many fans still prefer their original battle.
Vegito & Future Trunks Take Down Dragon Ball Super’s Zamasu
Fused Zamasu, created when Goku Black and Future Zamasu merged, is a villain completely committed to eliminating all mortal life. His contempt for humanity’s mistakes drives a complex plan that threatens to destroy Future Trunks’ timeline all over again.
When Goku Black and Future Zamasu fuse together, Goku and Vegeta respond by fusing as well, becoming Vegito with the powerful Super Saiyan Blue transformation. Vegito’s confident battle against Fused Zamasu is impressive, though he can’t quite finish him off. The intense emotional scene that follows, with Zamasu attacking with his Sword of Hope, is truly memorable.
Goku vs Kefla Is One of Dragon Ball’s Best Saiyan Showdowns
During the Tournament of Power, both Caulifla and Kale from Universe 6 prove to be strong fighters. Kale especially gains attention with her powerful Legendary Super Saiyan transformation. The two eventually combine their strength by using the Potara Earrings, becoming the incredibly formidable fighter known as Kefla, who quickly becomes one of the biggest threats in the tournament.
Kefla, even in her normal state, was a strong match for Goku when he was a Super Saiyan God. The fight escalated, and when Kefla transformed into a Super Saiyan 2, she gained the upper hand over Goku’s Blue Kaio-Ken form. Goku barely won, needing to activate Ultra Instinct Sign to do so. This intense Dragon Ball battle is remembered for its wild energy and relentless action.
Dragon Ball Invents a New Trio When Gas Becomes the Villain
Watching Dragon Ball Super‘s Granolah the Survivor Saga, I noticed things got really interesting with how wishes work. Both Granolah and, later, Gas used the Cerealian Dragon Balls to become unbelievably powerful – the strongest in the universe, actually. But there was a catch: it dramatically shortened their lives. Granolah’s strength forced Goku and Vegeta to get even stronger, and eventually, they had to team up with him when they figured out that Gas was the real threat.
Gas is changing rapidly and becoming increasingly unstable, while Vegeta shows off his powerful new Ultra Ego form and Goku masters True Ultra Instinct. The way these characters work together, despite their destructive potential, is impressive. Goku’s clever tactic of using Instant Transmission to move Gas around the galaxy to stall for time is particularly brilliant.
Planet-Eater Moro Finally Loses to Ultra Instinct Goku
Goku has struggled for a long time to fully control Ultra Instinct, but he’s now able to use this calm, focused state to its full potential. Meanwhile, Moro steals Merus’ perfected version of Ultra Instinct, but the immense power forces him to fuse with the Earth to avoid being annihilated.
Goku’s Ultra Instinct has led to some amazing moments, but nothing compares to seeing a massive, energy-based version of himself fight alongside him against Moro. The battle is especially incredible because Vegeta steps in to help, using a powerful technique to give Goku even more energy for one final, devastating attack. It’s a fight of truly epic proportions, rarely matched in the entire Dragon Ball series.
Gohan Beast & Orange Piccolo Team Up to Defeat Cell Max
Gohan and Piccolo are key characters in the Dragon Ball series, but they’ve often been overshadowed in Dragon Ball Super, particularly with Goku and Vegeta constantly reaching new power levels. The recent Super Hero Saga in Dragon Ball Super finally gives Gohan and Piccolo the spotlight, and feels like a celebration of their strong relationship.
This story sidelines Goku and Vegeta while focusing on Gohan and Piccolo. Gohan unlocks a powerful new form called Gohan Beast, and Piccolo finally gets a significant transformation of his own, becoming Orange Piccolo. Although Gohan Beast ultimately defeats Cell Max, Piccolo plays a crucial role in the victory. In a surprising move, Gohan even uses Piccolo’s famous Special Beam Cannon. Gohan Beast is stronger and more fearsome than he’s ever been, exceeding even his Super Saiyan 2 level.
Dragon Ball Finally Gives Fans Ultra Instinct Goku vs Gohan Beast
Gohan’s new ‘Beast’ form, first seen in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, quickly led fans to wonder how his power stacks up against Goku and Vegeta. The Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero storyline nicely wraps things up for the characters and includes a fun sparring match between Gohan Beast and Goku in his True Ultra Instinct form, all to see who is now the strongest.
It’s incredibly rewarding to finally see Gohan surpass his father and earn his genuine pride, especially after Gohan’s long period of uncertainty. The moment feels even more impactful knowing it’s one of the last from Akira Toriyama, bringing the characters’ journey full circle.
King Gomah Loses to Super Saiyan 4 Goku & Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta
When Dragon Ball DAIMA was first announced, some fans questioned how it would fit into the overall Dragon Ball story, particularly since it takes place before Dragon Ball Super. However, the series has established its own unique direction, leading to surprising character developments that quickly became a huge online sensation. Vegeta finally achieving his Super Saiyan 3 form was a major highlight, but it was quickly overshadowed by Goku unexpectedly unlocking Super Saiyan 4.
Gomah is becoming increasingly powerful and rapidly healing after transforming with his Evil Third Eye. Goku and Vegeta are relentlessly attacking him in what many fans are calling the most thrilling battle yet in Dragon Ball DAIMA. If this ends up being the last time we see Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta and Super Saiyan 4 Goku, it would be a truly epic finale for them.
Gogeta’s Return Humbles Legendary Super Saiyan Broly
As a huge Dragon Ball fan, I was so excited when they announced the new movie! Not only did it finally bring the powerful Broly into the official story, but it was a fantastic surprise to see it also bring back Gogeta! The fight is incredible – Broly really pushes Goku and Vegeta to their limits, completely overwhelming them even when they’re using Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue forms. It’s a truly epic battle!
While other fights are thrilling, they don’t compare to the incredible battle between Gogeta and Broly. Once Gogeta transforms, he takes control, and Broly is forced to defend himself. Their attacks are so powerful they actually shatter reality, ripping holes in space and time. Broly would have been destroyed by Gogeta’s Ultimate Kamehameha if Cheelai hadn’t used a Dragon Ball wish to save him.
Goku’s Biggest Rival Helps Win the Tournament of Power
The Tournament of Power in Dragon Ball Super is a battle royale featuring the most powerful warriors from across multiple universes. While Universe 7 competes, Universe 11’s Jiren quickly establishes himself as a major threat. Jiren fights strategically, efficiently defeating opponents and building his strength. His battle with Goku pushes Goku to unlock his first Ultra Instinct form, but Jiren continues to fight relentlessly.
Watching the final moments of the Tournament of Power was incredible. It all came down to Goku, Frieza, and Android 17 fighting together against Jiren. What really stood out was seeing Goku and Frieza actually team up – it felt completely genuine, and it was a really inspiring thing to witness. The fight itself didn’t pull any punches, and the way it ended was totally unexpected; someone other than Goku ended up being the hero, which was a real surprise.
