With the holidays approaching, many people start watching their favorite Christmas movies. While Christmas is officially on December 25th, people often enjoy these films throughout the entire month. You can find holiday movies on many streaming services, but Netflix is a particularly good choice.
With so many Christmas movies available on the world’s leading streaming service, it can be tough to decide what to watch! You’ll find everything from original holiday romances to one-of-a-kind festive films and popular movies that have become Christmas favorites. While the selection leans towards newer releases, they’re all worth checking out.
Love Hard (2021)

I feel like every holiday season, romantic comedies just pop up everywhere! Netflix has tried making them a few times, and I think Love Hard from 2021 is a really good one that doesn’t get enough attention. It’s clearly trying to be a fun mix of those classic Christmas romances like Love Actually and action movies like Die Hard.
This movie is about a young woman who flies from California to New York during her Christmas break to finally meet someone she connected with online. She quickly discovers she’s been tricked – the person she thought she knew isn’t who they seem. To make matters more complicated, she pretends to be dating the guy’s brother to fit in with his family, all while trying to figure out who the real person behind the online profile is, as they also happen to live in the same town.
The film’s silly concept allows for plenty of funny moments, and that’s what makes it enjoyable. Nina Dobrev is particularly delightful as the main character, and Jimmy O. Yang and Darren Barnet provide strong support. While critics had varying opinions, the movie is simply a fun watch.
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020)
Like romantic comedies, fantasy films are also a great fit for the Christmas season. Netflix delivered in this area with the 2020 film Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey.
This heartwarming film tells the story of a quirky toymaker and his inquisitive granddaughter, along with a special invention that magically brings toys to life. Its charming and fantastical nature makes it perfect for a Christmas movie, and critics agree – it currently has an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The holiday film Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey was a big hit at the NAACP Image Awards, earning an impressive 10 nominations. It stars a fantastic cast including Forest Whitaker, Madalen Mills, and Keegan-Michael Key. If you’re searching for a heartwarming and fun movie the whole family can enjoy, definitely give this one a watch!
The Princess Switch (2018)

It’s unusual for a Christmas movie to become a whole series, but The Princess Switch managed to do just that. The first movie came out in 2018 and takes inspiration from the classic story The Prince and the Pauper. It’s about two look-alikes who meet and decide to trade lives.
In the movie The Princess Switch, a baker named Stacy goes to Belgravia for a baking contest and unexpectedly discovers she has an identical twin – Lady Margaret Delacourt, a duchess! They decide to switch places, letting Stacy live like royalty and Margaret enjoy a normal life for a while.
People generally enjoyed The Princess Switch, especially Vanessa Hudgens playing two different roles. A sequel came out in 2020 and included a third character played by Hudgens, and the third movie shifted gears to become a heist story. All three films are perfect for a cozy Christmas movie marathon.
Single All The Way (2021)

When Single All the Way was released, it generated a lot of excitement. It was Netflix’s first original holiday movie with gay leads, and it proved popular, appearing in the platform’s top 10 list during its first week in 2021. While the story isn’t particularly original, it’s still an enjoyable watch.
The movie follows Peter (Michael Urie) who asks his friend Nick (Philemon Chambers) to pretend to be his boyfriend during a Christmas visit home. Things get complicated when Peter’s mother sets him up on a blind date, leading to the kind of funny and heartwarming chaos you’d expect from a great holiday romantic comedy.
Critics generally liked Single All the Way when it came out. While the movie uses familiar holiday romance clichés, it’s charming and the strong connection between the two leads really makes it work.
Jingle Bell Heist (2025)

Netflix’s new Christmas movie is a fun mix of romance, comedy, and a thrilling heist story. The concept is strong, and thankfully, the movie delivers thanks to its talented cast and crew.
In Jingle Bell Heist, Sophia, played by Olivia Holt, is juggling multiple jobs and taking care of her ill mother when she teams up with a convict named Nick (Connor Swindells) to rob a jewelry store owner. Though the premise may not immediately grab your attention, the movie delivers a surprisingly exciting outcome.
Holt and Swindells have fantastic on-screen chemistry, which makes even simple scenes interesting to watch. The heist is genuinely enjoyable, and the story has just the right amount of emotional depth to feel satisfying. Initial reviews of the movie have been good.
Let It Snow (2019)

Unlike many holiday rom-coms that center on a single couple, Let It Snow tells the story of a group of high school students and their different, connected relationships during one Christmas Eve in Illinois.
The movie Let It Snow is based on a popular young adult novel. It’s a fun, feel-good story with a little bit of everything – a Christmas party at a diner, a surprising meeting with a famous singer, and the familiar tension of unrequited love between close friends.
The movie has a great 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it’s definitely worth watching for its incredibly talented young cast. Featuring stars like Isabela Merced, Kiernan Shipka, Odeya Rush, Liv Hewson, Jacob Batalon, Shameik Moore, Mason Gooding, and others, the film boasts one of the best young groups of actors you’ll find.
Carry-On (2024)

The most popular movie on this list is Carry-On, which became a hit on Netflix at the end of 2024. It had more views in its first week than any other film on Netflix last year and is a fun, action-packed holiday movie similar to Die Hard.
The movie Carry-On unfolds at LAX airport on Christmas Eve, where a TSA officer receives an earbud from a terrorist. The terrorist then blackmails him into letting a deadly nerve agent pass through security onto a flight with 250 people on board. This kicks off a thrilling and fast-paced film that maintains its intensity for its entire two-hour duration.
When it came out, Carry-On was a hit with both audiences and critics, earning star Taron Egerton a nomination for a Critics’ Choice Super Film award. It’s also fun to see Jason Bateman playing the villain – it’s a departure from his usual roles.
Holidate (2020)

Christmas is the most popular holiday in movies – far more than any other, with Halloween being the only one that comes close. What makes the movie Holidate unique is that it features multiple holidays, making it enjoyable to watch any time of year.
The movie Holidate is about two people who are fed up with being single during the holidays. They make a deal to be each other’s dates for all holiday events. Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey have great chemistry, making their scenes together really fun to watch.
Holidate delivers classic romantic comedy moments. It’s full of fun, relatable situations – from embarrassing mishaps like accidentally overdoing it on laxatives to cringeworthy family encounters and unexpected run-ins with exes – making it a thoroughly enjoyable watch.
A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter (2024)

Let’s switch things up! Unlike the other movies on this list, A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter is a variety show. It stars the popular singer Sabrina Carpenter and gives her a chance to show off her talent for comedy, which really makes her stand out.
Sabrina Carpenter’s A Nonsense Christmas features a fantastic lineup of guest stars, like Quinta Brunson, Shania Twain, Cara Delevingne, and Chappell Roan. And to make things even more magical, Sean Astin—known for his roles in Lord of the Rings and Stranger Things—plays Santa Claus!
With Sabrina Carpenter being so popular, it’s no surprise her special was viewed over 2 million times in just two days! It quickly became one of the platform’s top 10 most-watched programs when it premiered. If you enjoy her work, you definitely won’t want to miss it.
Klaus (2019)

The 2019 film Klaus is a fantastic Christmas movie and a hidden gem on Netflix. While it’s an animated film, it’s surprisingly an origin story – telling how Santa Claus came to be.
The movie tells the story of a wealthy young man who must start a post office in a hostile town to avoid losing his inheritance. While he’s there, he becomes friends with a lonely toymaker, and together they bring joy to children by delivering gifts, forming a surprising connection along the way.
This Christmas movie is heartwarming, like many others, but it’s especially notable for its stunning animation and fantastic voice actors, including Jason Schwartzman, J.K. Simmons, and Rashida Jones. It received significant recognition, winning seven Annie Awards and earning an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature.
