Carole D’Andrea – who famously portrayed Velma in West Side Story – has passed away at 87.

The heartbreaking news that a gifted performer who excelled on both stage and screen had sadly passed away was shared by her grief-stricken family via Instagram, where they openly discussed their sorrow and disclosed the reason for her demise.

Carole D’Andrea’s three daughters posted on her social media accounts saying: “Hello Facebook/ Instagram friends of Carole D’Andrea, This is Andrea Doven (@andreadoven), Robin Morse (@robinmorse708), and Hilary High (@hilaryhigh) – we are Carole’s daughters.

I’m sorry for any inconvenience, but I’d like to share some sad news: Our cherished mom left us peacefully in the comfort of her home on Tuesday, March 11th, as a result of heart complications.

The three actresses, Andre Doven (age 63), Robin Morse (age 61), and Hilary Morse (age 59) shared stories about the last moments of their beloved mother.

It was an honor to stand by her during her final moments, and I was moved by the dignity and bravery she showed in those final weeks before she, as our godfather said, “stepped offstage.

 The trio concluded by revealing that the day their mother passed was a milestone day.

They found that she passed away on the 44th anniversary of her Alcoholics Anonymous sobriety, a day she referred to as “the day I transformed my life.

In the final days before her passing, she repeatedly shared with us how fulfilling her life had been, encompassing roles as a loving mother, cherished grandmother, captivating performer, and dedicated educator.
